I'm amazed that a copy of this play is available, because no publisher today would see the least reason to re-print it. And in fact my reason to want it is a case in point. One of my favorite composers is the English composer from the turn-of-the-century, Frederick Delius. I began listening to his music after seeing Ken Russell's TV bio with Max Adrian giving a definitive performance of a very unpleasant man and genius. Well, Delius wrote the incidental music for the play and prepared a 50-minute suite. The music is vintage Delius and I ALWAYS wanted to read the play that had inspired so much Orientalism in sound. Believe me the play is as worthy of reading as the music of listening. I mean that quite sincerely. We are not talking about great (read: necessary) music and literature. But I, who revere Schoenberg, Stockhausen, Messiaen and Boulez, will never STOP listening to Delius as well. And I feel the same way about this forgotten poet JAMES ELROY FLECKER. He is romantic, enthusiastic, hyperbolic, colorful, passionate, - well, you get my point or don't - if I've aroused your curiosity you won't be disappointed by this curiosity.Product details
